‘The Whispering Star’ is a collection of short stories with both personal and universal appeal, conveying the philosophy of life as distilled across ages of ancient Indian culture, and as applicable in modern times.
He smiled at the thought of her bewilderment. Dad, on the other hand, would just beam and wink at him. “Attaboy, the spirit of freedom always courted such adventures,” Dad would declare…

He did not notice when he fell asleep but was awakened by the sound of musical trinkets and anklets of dancers. It was, he noticed, around 3 a.m. Local time on his wristwatch. But the lamps were no longer alight. The darkness around was dispelled by a group of luminous lights dancing in a circle around the Deity in the sanctum sanctorum. They appeared to be tall, lean, mesmerisingly enchanting, lovely, beautiful, and you could sense the joy, happiness and brightness of the atmosphere brought about by these ‘figures’! All the seven (or nine? Or were they eleven?) he could sense were ‘feminine forms’! Oh, the beauty of the sight was one to behold forever, a real treasure. Laser beams couldn’t compare with these spirited, glowing lights!

Oh, the thought sent a chill down his spinal cord and he shut his eyes in fright of the unknown. His mind suddenly turned about face! What in the holy smokes was he doing in some primitive land alone, stranded in the middle of the night, and why could it not be ghosts in a spooky old building made of cobblestones, marble stone and rock? Did he blunder by venturing out, against his parents’ caution, to a primitive land? Was he ever going to return home to the free world, safe and sound?

The Whispering Star, a collection of short stories by Pamarty Venkataramana opens the doors to the persona and sensitive mind of the writer. The virtue of Universal Love and Love being the greatest blessing stands at the core of almost all his stories. They touch the untouched cords of the ‘reader’s being’ producing a sweet melody. It’s all about being and becoming. It is wonderfully said that there is a spiritual sensibility in each individual, which for various reasons lies dormant. The Whispering Star helps the readers to break away from the shackles of dormancy and evolve and work towards a Spiritual Renaissance which is desperately required for our Nation so as to revive the culture and traditions of perennial times, wherein World Religion comprising of Universal Brotherhood, Peace and True love is activated to the core and New World Order takes over the narrow and shallow World View. Personal spiritual experience on his spiritual journey, his true passion for spirituality brings out the compassionate side of the writer. His captivating stories suggest the presence of love in simple things, in it’s simpler forms which many fail to realise and try to outrage the modesty of Mother Nature. The profound diction, syntax and prolific style are characteristic of the writer who has to his credit umpteen number of books, stories, essays and articles.I recommend that this book may be added to the curriculum of World School Education so as to make the social fabric of our world intrinsic to moral and ethical mores.Dr Geeta Bhandari

Inspiring, thought-provoking and uplifting stories - 29.03.2021

‘The Whispering Star’ by Pamarty Venkataramana is an eclectic collection of beautifully illustrated stories that not only enchanted and intrigued me, but also nudged my complacent self into taking a good hard look at the current state of the world we live in.This book’s vivid and engaging characters are drawn from all walks of life and inhabit the furthest reaches of the universe. Whilst most seemed exotic in comparison to my own very English upbringing, they all felt compelling and real, even the spiritual and mythological beings amongst them. Materialism, corrupt and stagnating political systems, human vanity, and environmental disaster are recurring themes in these stories. However, in marked contrast to such dark negativity, the author also offers mankind the positive, uplifting hope that love, care, kindness and enlightenment are all around us and appear at the most unexpected times – or maybe just when we need them the most in our lives. The author, ‘an avid star gazer from childhood’, is a born storyteller with a poetic turn of phrase and an ironic sense of humour. I love the way he has put his heart and soul into every aspect of this book. His stories bring tiny ‘whispers’ of spiritual light amongst the apparent darkness of the rest of the world – for me, he is ‘The Whispering Star’ of the title. My favourite stories are: ‘The Star Mantra’ and ‘Star of Love’. When you buy this book and read them, you’ll find out why they appealed so much to me!I thoroughly recommend ‘The Whispering Star’ by Pamarty Venkataramana.
