Interview session with Heartbreak author Samantha Becket.

When her relationship fell apart, author Samantha Becket made the following promise to herself: “If I survive this, I’ll share with the world how I made it.” In Heartbreak, she tells the deeply personal story of her journey from a broken heart to self-love.
Based on her own journey of self-discovery, she explains how suffering, fear, and depression turned out to be valuable lessons.
Not only did she overcome her “lovepain”, she also rediscovered herself. Trauma of every kind can cause us to evolve, and maybe taking part in her journey can help you navigate your heartbreak.
We talked with author Samantha Becket about her experience with heartbreak and how she learned to love herself.

Does the title Heartbreak describe your personal ordeal?
All my life, I longed for love. In a toxic relationship with my Prince Charming, I learned what love doesn’t look like. It’s not true love to bend over backwards for your partner and try to be someone else. The unconditional love I longed for makes no demands. I longed for a love much deeper than most people’s image of a romantic relationship.
Why did you decide to share your story?
Learning what true love is was a painful experience for me. I lost myself in my supposed Prince Charming and had to get to know myself again in order to understand what true love, unconditional love, is all about. When I reached my absolute lowest point, I no longer knew how to continue living and made a promise to myself: “If I survive this, I will share with the world how I did it.”
What is Heartbreak about?
When my relationship finally fell apart, I didn’t see a way out of my depression and all the heartbreak, but if there was a solution, I wanted to share it to show that it is possible to heal completely. All suffering has a deeper meaning; it makes us grow if we don’t give up. Today, I am aware of the enormous importance of self-love; it means loving yourself, your own essence. I share how I came to this realization in my book.

What would you like your readers to take away on their journey?
Relationships are a wonderful thing. I don’t want to question this magic. But it is just as important not to lose yourself. If you take anything away from reading this, it’s the value of self-discovery. Getting to know your true identity, listening to your feelings, and creating space are incredibly enriching and contribute to a healthy relationship. So, in the end, everyone wins.
