John David Keith Richards
John Richards was born in London in 1946 but spent his childhood in Cardiff with his adoptive parents. After gaining a degree in economics from Birmingham University, John began employment at the Economic Intelligence Department of the Prudential Assurance Company. From there began a twenty-five-year career as a retail analyst, during which time John worked for several notable institutions including Scott Goff, Wood Mackenzie and NatWest.
For almost twenty years, John was rated the number one UK retail analyst, and also enjoyed a high profile in company flotations and corporate advisory work, with clients ranging from Philip Green to the Boots Company. John’s penchant for writing began when he launched two retail magazines and started writing a regular column in the influential trade magazine Retail Week. John is married and has nine grandchildren. His passions include travel, reading, writing and Cardiff City Football Club.
