A story about four refuse workers who
helped Santa deliver
the Christmas presents.
From Playroom ideas by Grandad
and three year old Henry.

It was in the very early morning of Christmas Eve when a dustbin lorry pulled up to Santa’s Workshop. The refuse workers, Ranjit, Rose, Bill, and Kira, had just called at the Snow Queen’s Palace, and this was their last stop before they finished early for Christmas. They climbed out of the lorry and started to empty the bins outside the workshops.

At this time on Christmas Eve there were usually lots of elves running to and fro, finishing last minute jobs before Santa and his sleigh left to deliver the presents to all of the children. This year there seemed to be no one about. As they made their way towards Santa’s House they came across a lonely little elf sitting on a tree stump. He did not look at all well. Another elf called Henrietta approached and said that Henry, the little elf, was suffering from some sort of elf flu. She said that most of the elves were in their beds and were not too well at all, and added that the boys usually seemed to suffer most.

As Ranjit, Rose, Bill and Kira approached the doorway to Santa’s House, who should come running out but Santa himself. He looked very pale. His usually red cheeks were almost white. “Oh no!” he exclaimed.
“What is the matter?” asked Rose. He replied “We have all tested positive for this awful virus. We will all have to isolate for the next ten days. Even the reindeer do not look well and I am feeling so so…tired. How will we get all of those presents to the children?”
“Do not worry, perhaps we can help,” said Ranjit.

My children loved listening to this book and it's references to places close to us. It was a lovely book for my 5 and 6 year old boys and sparked lots of questions.
